Special Needs at VBF

Your family belongs here.  We believe every child is created by God with purpose and deserves a place to be known, loved, and included.

The Promise Room

The Promise Room is a space built with your child in mind — supportive, understanding, and led by people who feel called to be there.

A Space Made for Them

The Promise Room is a space built specifically for your child — supportive, understanding, and led by people who genuinely want them there. It's not an afterthought or a side closet. It's a real place to belong.

Sundays at 11:00 AM

The Promise Room currently runs at the 11:00 AM Sunday service — a consistent, familiar place your child can count on each week.

Wednesday Nights Too

It also opens Wednesday nights at 6:30 PM, so your family has another rhythm to plug into beyond Sunday.

Tell Us About Your Child First

Before your first visit, you can fill out a short pre-visit form so we know your child's needs, comforts, and what helps them feel safe — so day one is smooth, not stressful.

A Team You Can Trust

Nothing matters more here than the safety of your child. Your kid's leaders are background-checked, trained, and here because they genuinely love kids. From the moment you walk up, every space is built so you can relax and worship knowing your child is in great hands.

Secure Check-In

You'll check your child in and receive a claim slip. Only you or your approved guardian can pick your child up, with a matching claim tag every single time.

Background-Checked Leaders

Every leader completes a background check and training before they're ever with your child — prepared, screened, and genuinely glad your family is here.

You Know Your Child Best

You're the expert on your child. The team works with what you tell us, follows your lead, and never pretends to know better than you do.

Come See It First

Want to walk through the Promise Room before you ever commit to a Sunday? Just ask. You're welcome to see the space and meet the team first.

What Your Kids Are Learning

Through engaging sensory activities, uplifting worship music, simple Bible lessons, and a calm, nurturing environment, your child will discover who Jesus is while feeling safe, valued, and cared for. Our goal is to help every child grow in faith at their own pace while celebrating the unique way God created them.

Uniquely Created, Fully Loved

Your child was made in the image of God and is deeply loved by Him . Here, your child is known, celebrated, and given a place to experience God, while you get to exhale and worship too.

This is for you

Every family's journey is unique, and we want you to know you're welcome here. Whether this is your first visit or you've been part of our church for years, you'll find a caring team ready to support your family with grace, understanding, and encouragement. You're not expected to have it all figured out—we're honored to walk alongside you as your child grows in faith and experiences the love of Jesus.

New to This Journey

Still learning what this journey looks like? We're here to walk alongside your family with support, encouragement, and a place where your child can experience the love of Jesus.

Looking for a Real Home

We hope you'll find more than a church—you'll find a place where your family is welcomed, supported, and loved as you grow in faith together.

Ready to Worship Again

You've been caring for others all week. Here, your child is cared for too—so you can experience worship, hear God's Word, and be refreshed.

Hoping for Friendship

For your child, and for you — people who understand your life and become real friends, not just kind faces.

A Parent With Gifts to Give

You have so much to offer this church, and there's a place built around your life where it matters.

Wondering If There's a Place

There is. Your family fits here, fully — come see it for yourself.

You Need Community Too

Caring for your child is a beautiful calling, but you weren't meant to do it alone. Here, you'll find people who will walk alongside your family and support you along the way.

Moms Of Special Needs

A monthly group just for moms raising kids with special needs — real talk, real understanding, and people who never need the backstory explained. You're not alone in this.

Support Groups

Beyond this, there are support groups for the heavy things people carry — grief, mental well-being, and more. Safe, honest, and walked together.

Men's and Women's Groups

Whoever you are, there's a place to grow in faith and build friendships that go deeper than small talk — community for you, not just your family.

Activity Groups

Sometimes the easiest connection comes shoulder to shoulder — built around things you already enjoy, at a pace that works for your life.

Big Next Steps for Your Kids

As your child grows, there are meaningful moments to mark their faith journey — and you won't walk through any of them alone.

Child Dedication

Once a month, usually the first Sunday, you can dedicate your child back to the Lord and commit to raising them in faith. Open to any age.

Baptism

When your child understands it for themselves, or when you're ready, baptism is a beautiful next step. It happens any weekend at VBF — and we'll make it work for your family.

Key Moments Throughout the Year

Some of your kid's best memories will happen outside of Sunday. Throughout the year there are big, fun, faith-building moments built just for your kids and your family.
Vacation Bible School
Your kid's biggest week of the summer — a whole week of worship, games, and faith. This year: Rainforest Falls 2026.
Hume Lake Summer Camp
Wagon Train camp at Hume Lake gives your kid ages 8–11 an unforgettable week away built around faith and friendship.
Family Serve Projects
Family-friendly serve days throughout the year where your whole household can make a difference in Bakersfield together.
And More...
These are just a few of the highlights — there's even more for your kids and your family throughout the year, from seasonal celebrations to special events. Keep an eye on the calendar below and you'll always see what's coming up next.

Have Questions? Let's Talk First.

You should never have to show up and hope it works out. Tell us about your child, ask anything, and a real person will reach out personally — to listen, answer honestly, and make sure your family's first visit goes well. No pressure, completely understanding.
